Doctoral Student (PhD) Position Materials Science / Physics

The Chair of Materials Science, Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, offers a

doctoral student (PhD) position materials science/ physics

The PhD project is focused on the creation, investigation and understanding of a new class of antimicrobial bionanomaterials for example for use in biomedicine or mobility applications. The project is part of a German Science Foundation (DFG) project that is carried out in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology, – Hans Knöll Institute-. Novel antimicrobial materials will be created, characterized, implemented, optimized and their structure-property relationships will be developed. Together with a second PhD student in microbiology, we aim to un-derstand the mechanisms of material-microbe interaction on our novel bionanomaterials.

Additional benefit of the PhD study is membership in the renowned excellence graduate Jena School of Microbial Communication (JSMC) which offers outstanding opportunities for career development and methods training. The candidate will receive in-depth training in materials science, bionanomaterials and synthesis of nanomaterials of both, basics science and industrial applications. The knowledge and skills developed will provide the candidate with a solid foundation for his/her future academic or industrial career in the field of materials science and bionanomaterials.

Creative and highly motivated applicants (m/f) are encouraged to apply. A master degree (First or Upper Second) or equivalent in one of the following fields is required: materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering. A background in nanotechnology or biomaterials would be an advantage. Excellent written and oral commutation skills in English are essential.

The part-time position, (75%) is funded for three years and will be paid in accordance to the German Public Services Regulations TV-L up to E 13. Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht: PhD student (m/f)

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. For more information please check our homepage: www.hzg.de.

For the application of highly brilliant synchrotron radiation the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is operating an outstation at DESY in Hamburg including two beamlines at PETRA III. The Imaging Beamline (IBL) and a second experimental station at the High Energy Materials Science (HEMS) beamline are both dedicated to imaging applications and specialized in synchrotron radiation based x-ray micro computed tomography. At both stations successful experiments on e.g. lightweight materials, bonding structures, implant materials and biomaterials have been performed since 2012.

In the course of a bilateral research project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Swedish Research Council, in the framework of the Röntgen-Ångström-Cluster we are seeking to fill a position on the topic of failure in biodegradable metal implants at our outstation in Hamburg at DESY. We therefore invite applications for a PhD student (m/f) position. The position is fixed to three years; the starting date is July 2016.

Wir suchen einen
promovierten wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter (Postdoktorand) (m/w)
(Tiermedizin, Biologie, Medizin, Biotechnologie).

Es sollen im Rahmen eines Kooperationsprojekts mit klinischen und industriellen Partnern Biomaterial-basierte Implantate zur Verhinderung fibrotischer Adhäsionen nach Bauchraumoperationen entwickelt werden. Zu Ihren Aufgaben wird die Leitung und Durchführung veterinärmedizinischer Arbeiten, zellbiologischer und molekular- biologischer in vitro Versuche sowie die wissenschaftliche Begleitung des Projekts gehören. Sie sollten möglichst Operationserfahrungen in vivo haben. Sie verfügen über eine umfangreiche zellbiologische Praxis mit Zellkulturtechniken sowie molekularbiologischen und histologischen Verfahren.

Wir bieten Ihnen im Rahmen einer dynamisch kreativen Arbeitsgruppe ein interdisziplinäres, innovatives Umfeld mit intensiven Kontakten zu akademischen, klinischen und industriellen Kooperationspartnern und eine hochmoderne Infrastruktur.

Die Stelle ist zunächst auf 3 Jahre befristet, eine Verlängerung ist wünschenswert.
